New Release, Summer Fever

The summer holidays are rapidly approaching and Stardoll deemed this a good time to release an entirely new fashion store Fever, Rio's annoying little sister, as branded by a member of the royalty club. The collection, which is Stardoll's attempt at a staple summer store is full of the same old released by Stardoll in recent months: tacky colours, average graphics, loose draped fabric everywhere - not forgetting the fever logo clustered onto a handful of the items. Out of the entire collection I liked a total of seven pieces although I am yet to buy any. There have only been one or two items in recent months that I've loved and deemed a necessity to my Stardoll closet, and I really hope Stardoll deliver with both the tributes and other collections in the Summer months. What are your thoughts on Fever?

Hot Buys: "Summer Retro" Collection Review

Whether Stardoll's graphic designers have just become lazy, or finally given into the persistent demands of their Hot Buys consumers is a question that I have difficulty answering, especially with the release of the "Summer Retro" collection. While I do appreciate that some of the pieces I particularly coveted were brought back, I question the prices. 13 Stardollars for a simple shirt I could replicate in StarDesign for a fraction of the cost seems a bit outrageous to me; same goes for the Rose Denim Shorts priced accordingly. So, let us have a moment of silence for the users that paid an arm and a leg for any items in this collection on the Starbazaar.

This release has been increasingly frustrating to Hot Buys sellers, as highly sought after items such as the Minni Body take a significant plunge in their value. This may have been the icing on the perpetual cake "of doom" to collectors, especially since Stardoll's opening of the Archives store and the release the Voile bridal gowns. However, I do (somewhat grudgingly) have to commend Stardoll on their ability to find out how users were making money for themselves without raking in a direct profit for the company itself, and then do something like this that would benefit them and the users desperate to get their hands on a piece from the collection for cheaper prices. Though one might argue that when these items had such a high value, users would have to buy more Stardollars to afford them, thereby making a profit. It all depends on the user and what they would be willing to spend for a Hot Buys. For example, I've seen the green Head Bow go for 400 SDs in some bazaars, though I'm not quite sure who in their right mind would pay so much for it. If you did your research and read the trends, it ends up becoming user's own faults for making a purchase that would not pay off, though I do agree that Stardoll kind of screwed over the collectors with this move.

So all in all, I suppose this release was pretty bittersweet for a lot of us, and not one of Stardoll's brightest moments. Angering the collectors, who also apparently make up a huge chunk of the profit, probably was not one of the smartest things to do. This also puts a time cap on the collectors' sales, forcing them to wait a few more years before actually making a decent profit, and even then, if you've got the chance to get the Hot Buys now, do so. Then again, if you are buying them merely for the aesthetically pleasing view and not so much to make money, I'd say go for it!

Angelina Jolie: A Walking Ad for 'World War Z'?

All women do have a different sense of sexuality, or sense of fun, or sense of like what's sexy or cool or tough.” – Angelina Jolie. Jolie, one of the worlds’ most talented actresses; married to one of the world’s most iconic actors, Brad Pitt; and of course mother of 6 who will hopefully follow in their mother and father’s footsteps.

Over the past few weeks, Angelina Jolie has been in basically ALL major tabloids over her recent double mastectomy to help prevent the high risk of her chances of getting breast cancer. But as her husband, Mr Pitt circles the globe to help promote his highly anticipated blockbuster, and soon-to-be smack-hit ‘World War Z’ – on occasion with Jolie as his accessory. But since Angelina’s recent news, is the spotlight truly on her? But I’m not here to debate who is the main advertiser - I’m here to discuss Jolie’s style throughout the red carpet appearances.

Jolie made her first appearance in London, and may I add, “va-va-voom”.  As there are many words to best describe her phenomenal physique  only one word sums it up to a tee, which can only be “flawless”. Of course the creation of this phenomenal creation comes from the haus of Yves Saint Laurent; I refuse to call it the new “Saint Laurent”, anyways, back to the point. I believe it’s a Jolie dress; very clean; very simple; and certainly very elegant. As it’s the big night for her husband, it’s nice to see that she toned the whole ensemble down to pay respect as it’s not her night. The hair and makeup is perfect. The hair is very safe, but if it was different, I think it would disrupt the entire look.

Burberry Menswear for Spring/Summer 2014 Review

As London Fashion Week continues, Burberry [Prorsum] hosted their first ever Menswear Collection in London after 10 years of Burberry shows in Milan. As normal, the celebrities came out for the highly anticipated show – with rapper Tinie Tempah & YouTube’s popular twins, Jack & Finn in attendance, oh, and I must say I was certainly not disappointed.

In comparison to Bailey’s previous Burberry collection for the Spring/Summer months, a lot of thinking has certainly gone into making this collection one of London Fashion Week’s finest. When first streaming this collection live through Vogue.co.uk, Tim Burton’s 1950’s set of ‘Edward Scissorhands’ instantly filled my mind of the multiple pastel coloured houses’ - which then led to the working men of the cul de sac. It’s apparent that inspiration from this collection came from the 1950’s & the 1980’s.

What I liked;
  • ·         Firstly, I would like to say that I’m obsessed with the mint, pale yellow & black polka dot scarves featured in looks #14 & #15, though despite these scarves featured in a Spring/Summer collection, they seem quite complex – which gives you the opportunity to wear them all year around.
  • ·         Look #4 & look #26 featured an incredible tailored, double-knit cardigan in luxurious ecru cashmere. Once I seen the jacket coming down the Burberry runway, I said to myself “Yay, cardigans on the Burberry runway”, but once Burberry released their items for purchase on their website, I done some research on the £1,795 cashmere gem, and it turns out that the supposed “cardigan” is actually a jacket. What I love most about the cardijack (jackets as cardigans) is that it will give the warmth of a jacket in a style of a cardigan – which I think is quite unique for Burberry.
  • ·         Despite my love-affair of black & white clothing, I must say I love the numerous colours throughout. Whether it’s the “pretty” pastel tones of mint & cotton-candy or the boldness of both the reds, greens and blues.
What I don't like;
  • ·         I’m not too sure why big name brands like Marc Jacobs & Burberry create those hideous runway eyewear. Anyone who is familiar with me & my style would have already known, but these sunglasses are not commercial at all. Although, if the shades’ frames were such thinner; I believe they could have worked, but unfortunately the finished product doesn’t board well with me.
  • ·         The Burberry Duffle Pouch, don't get me wrong, I LOVE them, although, I would have also loved if they featured a 1980’s styled satchel in those crazy colours that are presented throughout. And apart from those two flaws, the collection was spot on.
To conclude, I adore this collection, and I believe those colours will be a huge trend for both men and woman in the season of Spring/Summer in 2014. In total, I give this collection 7/10,

Eamonn Collins (FashionnGirl.)

Limited Edition, Summer 2013

Yesterday, the Summer collection of Limited Edition was released into the starplaza. Inspired by the Spring 2013 Versace collection, I was rather surprised with this attempt at redeeming the once half way mediocre quality graphics that stardoll has to offer.

Prices - a varying concept when it comes to the site - range from as little as 20 stardollars to a hefty 175. From my brief browsing through the newest edition, I would have to deduce them as being rather relevant considering the rise of quality in graphics.

In my own personal opinion, I think recreating the Versace collection was a good idea - I'm a huge fan of the Gianni Versace legacy, may I add - and only added to the overall effectiveness of Limited Edition. One of my few complaints would be the misinterpretation when it came to lace. In the following department, there was semi translucent fabrics with a simple print. Certainly not a smart move in that regard.

And then of course, there was that odd excess shine - it's basically a given, unfortunately - but when someone hears the word limited, they all the sudden go crazy. A word of advice for your wallet? Only buy what really speaks to you.

After all, you only have one chance to buy it. And if you do have some extra dollars to spend, click here to head on over to the starplaza.

Stardoll Hacks 2.0

*I am aware that Today's Top Trends is not a news blog however I feel as though it is a good way to warn people about the matters on Stardoll. If you're not interested in these updates do not read them. Normal posting will resume soon enough.*

UPDATE: Message from Ashley...
it's not Matthew. I have never given my account information to anyone, not even my friends. My password was great and no one even knows my email. I didn't even check my email last night because I didn't even get online.

I was hacked through someone who did this out of spite against me. Not only was I hacked, Doll2005 was hacked and is having his account used this way also. I am trying to get my account back as soon as possible, honestly.

There was a user named Insider or whatever that said that they were going to hack me and Doll2005 a week ago but I thought nothing of it until now.

Please keep in mind that if Matthew did not hack Ashley then the rest of this post will not be 100% correct. Right now a lot is speculation, so I apologise to anyone who is brought into this unwillingly. Screenshots and more after the break...

BEWARE, Ashley_Doggett Hacks

UPDATE (1): Ashley_Doggett is continuing to spread this message. Report and get her deleted!! If you receive a message delete it immediately so no other members can click on it.

Remember this image I posted in my previous post?

Ashley_doggett has been sending out these links to numerous members all with some degree of rares, myself included. Although I made the decision not to open the suspicious looking link, I have found numerous people who have. This link somehow gives Ashley's account access to your own, where she can then sell your items to accounts. For proof I have found a user, named Xx_voododoll_xX who clicked on the suspicious link and has had her items sold to two accounts which you can view now.

I really want to get these items returned back to the user! It has happened before and I am sure it will happen again. The link was a very devious way to get to the most innocent of members items stolen and I hope that they will be given back by Stardoll, which won't be done without our help. Please message Stardoll requesting she gets her items back! It isn't hard to do and I assure you it will mean a lot.

I finally want to add that at this point we cannot be unsure if it is Ashley on the account or not. Although I will admit that I have found Ashley slightly shady at times I could never have imagined her doing something like this and there is speculation it may be a member called Matthew who hacked her account.

Anything to add to the situation? Know anything more? Comment below so everyone can see.
Let's get Xx_voododoll_xX her items back and stop and prevent the link spreading any further.
More screenshots after the break.

Summer Royalty

In recent days a new Royalty collection was released, inspired by somewhat of a family summer day out theme. Prices range from 7 stardollars, for a pair of sunglasses, to 25 stardollars for the beautiful interior.

Aside from the clothes was the release of a little girl, shown in the image above, which sparked some discussion among members due to the diverse cultures of Stardoll and only one choice of girl. I think it would have been nice to see more variety of race however either way people would probably complain.  What are your thoughts?

I must also apologise for the lack of posts - I will be posting another writer application soon. The TTT FW schedule will be released in the next week or so and the proposed dates are the 12th to 14th of July.

Fashion Focus - Get Trendy

The summer months have arrived and if you don't know what the hottest trends from S/S 2013 are then you're in the right place. We're rounding up only a select few of the runway trends from this season, in our S/S 2013 trend round up.

From bold graphic prints to oriental styling and monochrome colour play this is set to be a vintage year for must-try trends. We're craving jumbo statement stripes and faux flower florals - so read on to discover your favourite new trends for summer.

Sixties - The sixties are still providing a host of fashion inspiration for designers with Victoria Beckham, Louis Vuitton and Prada all bringing back some classic sixties shapes.

Statement Stripes - Get ready to make a statement this summer in jumbo sized stripes. They were seen everywhere over the runways and will be a trend that keeps on going. Whether you wear them bold in black and white or mix things up with colour at Paul Smith, one thing's for sure - you'll be turning heads! If you wish to view more runway shoes where these bold stripes were featured check out Acne, Dolce & Gabbana, Tommy Hilfiger, Giles or Marc Jacobs.
Minimalism - Topshop Unique, Calvin Klein and Nicole Farhi all know how to do minimalism with panache. Many adore the simple lines and cool colours for a no nonsense approach to style. Check these out at the S/S 2013 shows from Calvin Klein, Hermes, Margaret Howell, Nicole Farhi, Topshop Unique or Valentino.

Sheen Team - Metallic is a hard trend to nail, but if you're going to sheen then you should go all out. Take Dior's beautiful high shine dresses and Diane Von Furstenberg's use of shimmering textures for inspiration. Find more at Burberry Prorsum, Diane Von Furstenberg, Jonathon Saunders, Mulberry, or Christian Dior.

Faux Flower Power - The trend for in your face faux flowers was nailed by Holly Fulton, who whacked oversized posies on her dresses, top and skirts in a full on floral collection. Want to view more? Take a look at Anna Sui, Moschino Cheap & Chic and Fashion East.

Part two of this post, with the competition will be posted tomorrow!

5 Questions: Gladis Wung Lee

She recently introduced an exciting new project entitled the Stardollogist, alongside both Now and Be, so I took the opportunity to have a chat with Gladis herself, and ask her those all important five questions.

TTT: You recently started up the Stardollogist, what inspired you to create it?

G: I recently started the stardollogist out of pure boredom. There was also the factor where I kept seeing people hustling and bustling with a magazine or a fashion blog yet I kept feeling like I was drowning into the unknown. That too, I felt like my mark on stardoll was a bruise fading away and blending in with the rest of the skin. On top of that, I also insisted myself I need to create something I would love. Since I love journalism and had always been an enthusiast of fake gossip such as elite news, the stardollogist was born.

TTT: Interesting! What plans do you have for the future of the project? It's a very exciting new idea and I'm sure the TTT readers would love an insight on what's to come.

G: Well this will sound disappointing but only time will tell! At this point I am SUPER busy with school so I can't really slip that in but ill try!! A lot of major gossip and juicy rumours will float around celebrities in the stardoll scene. You have to really examine that person because, trust me, you haven't really seen that dollywood personality until you've read an article in Stardollogist on their secret lives. (Spoiler on next issue: the worst gang violence anyone has ever seen in all of Stardoll)

Safari Summer or Nothing!

You may think that safari patterns have been here for a long time. For sure they have, however they've never been so well made and well worn on the runways for summer before. Of course, you may find it ridiculous for all looks to be in one pattern, but here's where you will be able to find some great looks.

Purity has been found at MaxMara

This summer, the MaxMara woman goes intellectual and she wants to make a Safari in Africa. After all, she spends a lot for this country with all the money she's giving to philanthropic causes helping Africa, so it seems logical for her to go there once in her life. Then, as always, she's having great fun with her luxurious clothes, sometimes wearing jumpsuits or skirts with very feminine shirts, the whole time in Sahara or soil color. As she also becomes interested about the country, she knows that when it rains, it does a lot... so it's logical to bring a great coat, a master piece that gives a real tribute to the country itself.

'One, two, three not only you and me' at Emilio Pucci

The Pucci woman seems to have re-invented the three colours of the look. It's mostly white, beige and brown with yellow or green hints. Jumpsuits are her best friends, whether long or short. She's just having fun with this colors that go well with her tanned skin from the sun of the summer. If it is not to wear at work she mostly wears it on sundays when she's invited to a brunch on the Upper East Side or to a polo game at the luxurious Hamptons.

When you think about Safari, you think about Kenzo

Of course, what would be this post without the Kenzo woman? Well, she's completely crazy, in the best way. Anna Dello Russo wouldn't even have to mix Kenzo pieces with other brands to make these outfits, she can already easily have it all, just going to a Kenzo boutique. The patterns are big, the colors are bright and neon, but the shapes are casual and loose. The Kenzo woman may be a bit of a paradox and she isn't afraid to wear it every day. She's tropical every where, mostly on the subway!

New designers bring new concepts: the Safari mermaid from Anthony Vaccarello
The Anthony Vaccarello woman is a mermaid living in the night. She does not own that many clothes to go to work in so she prefers to live like a socialite, partying at each and every fashion event around. As she follows fashion she loves young designers, so she found Anthony who designed these amazing dresses for her with a big Safari inspiration. The shape doesn't change that much, but for her it's important to look similar every time as she wants to be easily recognisable. After all, you can't just live partying all of your life!
